Karen State teachers have identified that a lack of teacher training is one of the major problems that they face as teachers. In response to this need, KTWG has been running the Mobile Teacher Training Program since 2001. This project has 26 full-time mobile teacher trainers walking throughout the war-torn districts of Karen State providing in-service teacher training to over 3100 local teachers. These mobile teacher trainers provide pedagogical and subject methodology training while also providing ongoing encouragement to and evaluation of local teachers.

Another component of this project is the summer vacation teacher training workshops which are held throughout Karen State during March adn April. In 2005, 8 one-month workshops were attended by 523 teachers despite the threat of Burmese military interference or attacks.
